Ahhhh The timeless question. Like Coke Vs Pepsi, Law & Order Vs CSI, Jordan Vs Kobe, The Facebook/MySpace battle is just heating up. Who comes out on top?
This battle has been going on for years with each contender getting the upper hand at one point in time. I remember my senior year at USC I signed up for Facebook because it was fun to have all your college friends together on one space. Facebook was for college students only, you had to have a working .edu email address in order to play. It was like a club, or a privilege. It didn't offer too much. Very Friendster-ish.
Then MySpace exploded. You could listen to just about any artist or bands music, post pictures, comments on pictures, and you could even post your favorite song on your page. MySpace dominated the world it seemed like. People were cashing in like crazy, and it did not seem like this madness would end anytime soon.
Then one day I opened my MySpace account and lo and behold I had 25 friend requests! Wow! I was excited to see who they were as I love finding old friends online. Lo and behold it was requests from Jenny, Pam, Amanda, Brooke, Katie, and some of their friends. They all thought I seemed like a cool guy and wanted to be my friend. I ignored them. I apparently did the right thing cause a few weeks after that I started seeing uncharacteristic bulletins from my friends. Bulletins like "I got this Macy's gift card for free!" or "Can you believe she got naked and did that?" Slowly but surely MySpace was completely taken over by spammers. It was annoying, it took away from the experience, and people just stopped using it and deleted their accounts.
I still had my Facebook account which i didn't use too much. It kept me abreast of what my SC friends were up to. The Facebook opened their arms to anyone and everyone. Suddenly I was getting friend requests from my cousins in Paris, my friends from elementary school, and even my Dad! Facebook also added tons of fun applications, and tons of annoying ones, but the good news was I could choose which ones I wanted on my page! Even better I have yet to be hit by any kind of spam (knock on wood).
Facebook is the new MySpace which was the new Facebook which was the new Friendster. Can MySpace regain it's footing in the pop culture world where people so easily change sides, and adapt to whatever is new and fresh? They easily could. It's just gonna take a lot of creativity on Tom's part to make that happen.

All my cousins try to convert me to Facebook, it's too chaotic sometimes but it's nice being able to post entire event albums and have people tag pictures of you.
I still enjoy MySpace a bit more because most people who have a Facebook profile have a MySpace profile, but not vice-versa, although facebook totally has a mobile page designed for iPhones, and I might be playing with that more in the future.
Ehh, I'm kind of getting over all the social networking though. I have more fun adding contacts on my phone and might start posting more in blogs :)
btw, i love the blog mr. i have been traveling the world for the past year, and facebook is THE international way to keep in touch. no one we met had myspace. just a little fyi, facebook-1, myspace-0
